Sales was Counsel, then Senior Counsel, in the Office of Legal Policy at the U.S. Department of Justice from 2001 through 2003. He received the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award in 2003. Sales returned to OLP in summer 2005 to run the Justice Department’s “war room” for the confirmation of Chief Justice John Roberts.
During the 2005-2006 academic year, Sales was John M. Olin Fellow at the Georgetown University Law Center. From 2003 through 2005, he was an Associate at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Wiley Rein & Fielding LLP, where he was a member of the firm’s appellate and litigation practice groups.
Sales clerked for the Honorable David B. Sentelle of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He was graduated from Duke Law School magna cum laude, joining the Order of the Coif and serving as Research Editor of the Duke Law Journal.
