Brian J. Field served most recently in the Bush Administration as a Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) where his work focused on developing legislative strategy for the defense budget.

Prior to his work at the Department of Defense, Field worked as a Fellow in Counterterrorism and Homeland Security with the Institute for Global Security Law and Policy. While at the Institute, Field wrote several advisory memoranda for the Department of Defense Office of Military Commissions, U.S. Coast Guard, and the Iraqi High Tribunal, as well as advised members of Congress and their staff on matters related to counterterrorism legislation.

Field’s publications include: Using and Abusing the Financial Markets: Money Laundering as the Achilles Heel of Terror Financing, University of Pennsylvania Journal of International Economic Law (Fall 2007) (with Amos N. Guiora) and Snatch-and-Grab Ops: Justifying Extraterritorial Abductions, University of Iowa Journal of International Law and Contemporary Problems (Winter 2007) (with Gregory S. McNeal).

While in law school, Field clerked with the Office of the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio and the City of Chicago, Department of Law.

He is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Law and is admitted to practice law in Illinois.
